Senior Backend PHP Developer 

Cardiff – Hybrid (1 day per week on site)

Salary – £50k-£65k

Key responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing and resolving reported issues in the Laravel web application which is currently supporting the customer-facing digital experience, backend integrations with third party services and data migration / transformation.
  • Taking ownership of a product, feature or task and seeing it through from conception to production; often architecting solutions to complex problems.
  • Reviewing, refactoring and rearchitecting areas of the functionality that will remain in the Laravel web application or be extended there.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on the de-coupling and migration of functionality over time into modern technology stacks, such as Node (gaining exposure to JavaScript/Typescript in the process).
  • Using excellent oral and written communication, confidently explaining technical concepts to fellow engineers, less-technical colleagues, and clients.
  • Contributing to the management of the client’s AWS infrastructure (supported by their dedicated SysOps partner) and our Kubernetes/CI/CD workflow.
  • Being an ambassador of the brand and its values.

Skills Required:

  • Looking to develop craft as a Full Stack Engineer.
  • Expert commercial experience in building and evolving complex web applications, conceiving suites of APIs and performant data storage solutions.
  • Solid knowledge of PHP in a commercial environment, ideally with experience in the Laravel framework (although similar such as Symfony is good too!)
  • Good knowledge of React with state management concepts such as Redux.
  • Demonstrable experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Demonstrable experience in designing scalable UI’s and large applications.
  • Experience of working with AWS or Azure infrastructure and tools.
  • Experience of handling queues of jobs and processes that manage the synchronisation of data into and out of the environments we manage.
  • Proficient skills with the command line and command line tools such as git.
  • Experience with CI/CD and modern best practices of deploying software.
