Unify is proud to be supporting a well known UK DDaT Consultancy, source 2 Solutions Architects to help them deliver a high-profile project in the Government sector.

A summary of general Tech Arch needs below:

• Overall architects need:
• Strong communication, strong at producing and maintaining documentation, creating and implementing governance and bringing people along on that journey.
• Depending on the role, may either be working in a legacy environment or on modern services.

• Tech stack:
• Legacy Oracle system
• More recent legacy built in Ruby on Rails,
• New systems built in Java and Express.js,
• AWS

A summary of the two live role requirements below:

Role 1:

• Programme Objective: Replace a legacy Oracle system by building a new service built by a supplier team (the existing, 7-year-old Ruby on Rails application).
• Core Challenge: Align two isolated teams into a unified end-to-end user journey, while managing resistance to change from the legacy team.
• Immediate Needs & Roles:
• Governance, Security & Delivery Leads: Strong communicators to establish cross-team governance, create documentation, and evidence the system’s security position.
• Technical / Solutions Architect: Experienced in legacy modernization to lead the plan to refactor the application from Ruby on Rails to Express and Java.
• Key Skills & Behavioral Traits Required:
• Cross-team coordination and alignment across supplier and in-house teams.
• Change management and empathy to guide resistant developers through retraining away from Ruby on Rails.
• Security accreditation, technical documentation, and governance expertise.

Role 2:

• Programme / System Context: Documenting and standardising a large legacy Oracle environment with no existing documentation, strategy, or consistent architectural approach.
• Core Challenge: The current team has been creating APIs without meeting technical standards, lacking a unified strategy or established patterns.
• Immediate Focus & Deliverables:
• Define API patterns, integration standards, and governance processes.
• Work directly with/support the engineering team on hands-on API implementation.
• Establish baseline documentation in an environment where none currently exists.
• Key Skills Required:
• API & Integration Expertise: Hands-on experience building/supporting APIs, integrations, and setting technical patterns (focus is on structuring and standardizing, not greenfield development).
• Governance & Standards: Explicit, proven governance experience listed on their CV.
• Documentation & Technical Leadership: Ability to get into the granular technical details while coaching and guiding the team to adhere to best practices.

For both roles past experience as a software engineer, cloud engineer, solutions architect, or software architect, delivering digital products on the web would be beneficial.
